Today Ethereum developers announced the launch of their highly anticipated blockchain software platform Frontier which they refer to as a “World Computer” in their launch video below.
“A few minutes ago, many of you generated and loaded the Ethereum Genesis block, marking the inception of Frontier, the first Live release of the Ethereum project.”
Ethereum was crowdfunded in August 2014 promising a decentralized platform to “run smart contracts: applications that run exactly as programmed without any possibility of downtime, fraud or third party interference.”
Yet it may end up being even more than that.
“Ethereum is how the Internet was supposed to work: it’s a censorship-proof planetary scale computer, where users always stay in control of their funds and personal data.”
Ethereum has merged blockchain technology with common coding languages to encourage more diverse participation and creative development.
“Ethereum is the secure backbone for everything from e-commerce to the Internet of Things enabling transparent governance for communities and businesses while keeping user’s communications secure,” they declare.
Exciting times for decentralization.
